Mobile Boat Mechanic Charleston SC

A boat that will not start at the dock is a different kind of problem than one sitting in your driveway. Hauling it 40 miles to a shop can turn a two hour job into a lost weekend. Cape Romain Marine runs a mobile boat repair service for that reason. We load the truck, drive to where your boat is, and work on it there.

We have been servicing boats out of McClellanville since 2007. Our mobile boat mechanic service travels roughly 50 miles from the shop, which covers most of the Charleston metro, the barrier islands, the Awendaw and Bulls Bay stretch of Highway 17, and north toward Georgetown.

Call (843) 887-3330 and tell us what the boat is doing. We will let you know whether we can come to you.

Where our mobile boat mechanic travels

The service radius is about 50 miles from 10129 Highway 17 in McClellanville. That puts these areas comfortably inside it:

Charleston metro

  • Charleston and downtown marinas
  • Mount Pleasant, including Shem Creek and the Old Village
  • Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes
  • Sullivan’s Island
  • Daniel Island and Cainhoy
  • North Charleston and Hanahan
  • Goose Creek and Moncks Corner

Highway 17 north and the Santee side

If you are close to the edge of that radius, call anyway. We would rather look at the address than guess. You can also see the full picture of our coverage on the areas we serve page.

What we can do at your dock, and what we cannot

The honest answer is that it depends on the job. We bring tools, diagnostic equipment, and the parts that fail most often, and a good share of outboard trouble can be sorted out where the boat floats. Other work needs a lift, a test tank, or a bench, and there is no way around that.

So the first step is a phone call. Describe the symptom, when it started, and what the engine is doing. We will tell you before anyone drives out whether it is a dockside fix or something that needs to come to McClellanville. We would rather have that conversation on the phone than charge you for a trip that ends in a tow.

Mobile service works at private docks, marina slips, boat lifts, storage lots, and your driveway. If we can get the truck near the boat, we can usually work on it.

Outboards we service

We are a Suzuki, Yamaha and Mercury dealer, and we service and repair beyond those brands.

  • Suzuki. We sell, service, and repower with Suzuki outboards. See our Suzuki repower center.
  • Yamaha. Same story. Sales, service, and repowers through our Yamaha repower center.
  • Evinrude. BRP stopped building Evinrude outboards in 2020 and a lot of shops walked away from them. We did not. If you own one and have been told nobody works on it, call us.
  • Mercury. We sell, service, and repower with Mercury outboards as well.

When the boat has to come to the shop

Some jobs belong on a lift. Lower unit work, full repowers, hull and transom repair, and anything that needs the boat out of the water are shop jobs. Our service department in McClellanville handles all of it, and you can read more on the boat service page. If we come out and find the problem is bigger than a dockside repair, we will tell you what it will take to get it into the shop.

Booking mobile boat repair

Call (843) 887-3330 during shop hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Weekends are by appointment. You can also reach us through the contact page, though a phone call gets you an answer faster when the boat is down.

It helps if you have these ready when you call:

  • Engine make, model, and year
  • Where the boat is sitting, including the marina or dock name
  • What the boat is doing, and whether it started suddenly or got worse over time
  • Whether the engine will run at all

Frequently asked questions

Do you actually come to my dock, or do I have to trailer the boat in?

We come to you, within about 50 miles of McClellanville. Whether the specific repair can be completed on site is a separate question, and one we will answer on the phone before making the trip.

How far will you travel for mobile boat repair?

Roughly 50 miles from the shop at 10129 Highway 17, McClellanville, SC. That covers Charleston, Mount Pleasant, Isle of Palms, Awendaw, Georgetown, and the towns in between.

What outboard brands do you work on?

We sell, service, and repower Suzuki, Yamaha and Mercury. We also service Evinrude, which many shops no longer will.

Do you offer mobile service on weekends?

Weekends are by appointment. Regular hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

How much does mobile service cost?

It depends on the job and the distance. Call (843) 887-3330 and we will give you a number before we schedule anything.
